Bristol Cycling: Rides for July 2017

Here’s what we’ve got planned for July 2017. BCyC rides are open to all types of cyclist, young and old, athletic or disabled, from slow urbanites to fast racers. We are sociable folk, and always welcome new members and old faces alike. See our Diary page for a full listing of all of our past, present, and future rides, also meetings and other events. Most rides start from outside the Arnolifini on the Pero’s Bridge side, but check details of each ride. Click here for a map of all the main staring points. There’s also contact details for the ride leader for any questions you may have.

Sun 2 July – Discover Bristol Ride: The Smyth Family (Easy ‐ 12 miles) Leader:Penny Partridge
Meet 12:45pm at the Arnolfini, BS1 4QA. Finish 3.30pm
The ride will visit two parks in south Bristol and cycle out to Long Ashton and the Ashton Court estate to learn a little of this famous Bristolian family.

Sun 9 July – Clevedon Riviera (Medium – 33 miles) Leader:Diana Hayns

Meet 9:45am at the Arnolfini, BS1 4QA. Finish 4pm
A gentle paced Ride to this fast‐expanding and ever popular seaside resort. This sociable ride will follow off-road cycle paths and quiet roads where possible, and will take a leisurely pace to enjoy the scenery.

Sun 16 July – Great Weston Ride (Hard ‐ 57 miles)
For full event details see the organisers’ website
This event is organised BY OTHERS but BCyC are actively supporting it. It’s a fabulous 57‐mile challenge bike ride from Bristol to Weston‐super‐Mare that follows a spectacular route through the Mendips and across the Somerset Levels starting from Long Ashton Park‐&‐Ride. You are encouraged to raise charity funds for the Prostate Cancer Charity but it’s not mandatory. All people taking part MUST SIGN UP through the website.

Sun 23 July – Purton Ships Graveyard (Hard ‐ 56 miles). Leader: William Baker
Meet 9:30am at the Water Tower, Durdham Downs, BS9 1FG. Finish 5pm
A ride across the undulating Severnvale along quiet rural roads and towpaths to visit the Purton hulks ‐ a ‘ships graveyard’ on the banks of the Severn. About 60 boats were beached to stop further erosion of the river banks and protect the canal. Short walk involved. Stopping for a lunchtime drink at the Berkeley Arms ‐ an unspoiled, no‐frills pub – no food, no TV, no pool table, no fruit machines, so bring snacks and packed lunch.

Sun 30 July – Chepstow (Medium ‐ 26 miles). Leader: Moira Trenchard
Meet 10:45am at Blaise cafe, Kings Weston Rd, BS10 7QS. Finish about 4pm
A lovely day ride into Wales crossing the old Severn Bridge.
