Cycling news from Bristol and beyond

Cycling in the Inner City – meeting 26 Feb

What an inspirtional meeting! Around 25 people representing various organisations and community groups shared the news on what they were doing to promote and support cycling in the Inner City – ranging from safe front-garden cycle parking to (dare I mention!) our own Strategic Cycling Network.

Shocked to hear that a lot of people have given up cycling, having come to Bristol via other countries where cycling is the norm – we can’t stand for this!

Great to hear that so much work is going on to help people to start (or get back into) cycling, but we need to shout about this – I don’t think that anyone at the meeting was aware of what all the others were doing.

Come on Bristol – Richard Eddy on the BBC News article seems to have a very narrow view of Bristol and talks only of the impact on business and motorised travel with no mention of health issues, individual freedom and discrimination, pollution and sustainability issues that cycling can help to solve.

We’re keen to help build on the momentum from this meeting – thanks to Kate for setting it up and to all those who attended.
